Acid Reflux Testing in Los Angeles

A chronic cough or hoarseness might actually be caused by reflux. Because these symptoms can have many causes, a pH test can confirm if reflux is a likely contributing factor to your symptoms and provide details on how severe it is. The unique sensor used in Restech’s Dx-pH System can detect the pH of both liquid and aerosolized reflux, offering a comprehensive analysis. At LAENT, we strive to deliver the best Acid Reflux Testing Los Angeles has to offer.

How is the Test Performed?

On the day of the procedure, a clinician inserts a small probe through the nose into the very back of your mouth. It’s taped to your cheek and wrapped behind your ear to keep it in place. The insertion should be painless and cause minimal irritation. During the 24-hour test, you’ll mark the times of your symptoms, meals, and sleep periods using buttons on the wireless recorder. After the test is complete, a clinician will gently remove the probe, and they will use your data to generate a report of your reflux activity. Your doctor will then use this information to create a targeted treatment plan, which they will discuss with you at a follow up appointment.

Potential Complications

The Restech Dx-pH System is minimally invasive, and was designed to minimize discomfort and potential complications. Before the test, your clinician will check for any issues like nasal polyps, bone spurs, or septum deviations that could affect the procedure. The placement of the probe takes just a few minutes. During this time, you may sneeze, have watery eyes, or feel the probe move slightly when swallowing.

What does the Acid Reflux Testing Procedure Feel Like?

It feels kinda like when water gets up your nose in the swimming pool. It may cause slight discomfort, but is not painful.

Will the probe interfere with eating or drinking?

The probe does not interfere with talking, eating, or drinking. During the test period, we encourage our Los Angeles Acid Reflux Testing patients to go about their day as usual.

Do I need to stop my anti-reflux medication?

Generally, it is recommended to stop taking anti-reflux medications before your reflux testing procedure to ensure accurate results. However, there are special cases where your doctor might advise you to continue taking them. We strongly encourage you to speak with your healthcare provider about your specific situation.
