What is a Virtual Visit?

A Virtual Visit is an online appointment with your provider using secure, live video. It is similar to an in-person visit that you can do from home or from a remote office to avoid long drives and waiting in waiting rooms. They are performed using your smartphone, tablet or computer from the comfort of your home.

During your initial consultation using our virtual visit program, you will discuss the reason for your visit with one of our medical professionals. The provider will ask questions about your symptoms, medical history, and other medications you may be taking to determine the best course of action. One great benefit of a Virtual Visit versus traditional telemedicine is that you can use the high-definition video to show the medical provider any physical symptoms, share documents via a secure portal and the provider can share their screen to give valuable insights into your medical condition.

Your provider can also prescribe medications when appropriate; if they are unsure about your diagnosis, they are able to order additional tests or other diagnostics. Once your results are ready, they are sent to your Virtual provider, who will then review them and recommend a treatment plan.

Virtual visits are especially useful to review diagnostic exams such as hearing tests, CT scans or lab results once you have already seen a provider in person. If you have an HMO they are also very useful for initial consultation as many of our detailed examinations such as nasal and laryngeal endoscopy require a prior authorization which we can request after your virtual consultation.

For a more detailed virtual visit you can also pre-purchase a camera here that you can use to show your provider your ear canals (for possible hearing loss or infection), detailed oral exam (for lesions or possible snoring/sleep apnea) and nasal exam (for trouble breathing and nasal congestion).

There are times when an in-person visit may be more appropriate. Virtual Visits are not intended to address chronic or complicated conditions, a health issue that may need a hands-on exam, lab test or X-ray or an emergency medical need.
