Q&A with Bjorn Gunnarsson:
What Do You Do In Your Time Off?
I like to watch my 4 kids play soccer.
What Defines Your Personality?
Dedicated to making a positive impact on people's lives.
Why did you choose a career in medicine?
I played a lot of sports as a kid and had a few injuries. These injuries resulted in a need for physical therapy to help me return to sports. During my time in physical therapy, I became intrigued by the complexity and detail of the human body and how its systems function together. I knew I wanted to work in the medical field from a young age, but with my life experiences in sports, becoming a physical therapist made the most sense.
What charities & causes are you passionate about?
Volunteering as a Soccer Coach.
What are your favorite procedures or surgeries to perform?
Canalith Repositioning Maneuver (CRM) for the quick resolution of BPPV.
What are your goals personally, professionally or both?
I prioritize continuing education to remain current with the latest research and treatment techniques for vertigo and TMJ disorders, emphasizing patient-centered care by creating personalized treatment plans to actively engage patients in their rehabilitation process, and I also promote interdisciplinary collaboration to build strong working relationships with other healthcare professionals, ensuring comprehensive care for patients with complex cases."
Who is the most influential mentor you've worked with?
Dr. Eric Johnson DSc was my most influential professor at Loma Linda University. His expertise and knowledge is impressive and his ability to teach and help his students to be the best clinicians they could be was unmatched. He guided me to understand the vestibular system clearly and has shown me the immense potential for specialization in vestibular rehab. Not only does Dr. Johnson have an outstanding knowledge base, his professionalism and commitment to his students has inspired me to emulate these qualities in my own career.
Do you speak another language?
